One-week closed working session at Almaz Studio
2010
Almaz Studio, Hanoi, Vietnam
In early 2010, Nguyễn Huy An, Vũ Đức Toàn, and Hoàng Minh Đức were the most active figures in shaping what would become the Phụ Lục collective, which ultimately comprised six members (the others being Ngô Thành Bắc, Nguyễn Song, and Nguyễn Dương Hải Đăng). That same year, Hoàng Minh Đức proposed an important initiative: a closed, week-long experimental working session at Almaz Studio, a space belonging to filmmaker Vincent Baumont, a friend of Phụ Lục. Although this period unfolded quietly and remained little known, it marked a pivotal moment for the group. It was during this concentrated week of working together that Phụ Lục’s direction was clarified and firmly established. In fact, many of the group’s subsequent activities in the years that followed were developed from sketches and ideas initiated during this intensive working phase.
